We went to Sway this year for dinner, it was a beautiful night and we were able to sit outside. As always, my dad gave the waiter a hard time, but by the end of the dinner he loved us:) We are always a rowdy group when we are all together. It did not help that in the first 10 minutes of sitting down we knocked down a glass of water and broke a wine glass!
Dinner was delicious and my mom told us stories of her childhood that she had never told us--coming to the U.S. through Ellis Island, what it was like growing up with her father, her blind grandfather, learning English when she was a kid. It was really amazing to hear her tell all these stories.
There is a poem called the Wedding Whistle by Ogden Nash that my grandfather used to say to my grandmother. A few weeks before their anniversary my dad printed out a copy for us to read on our anniversary. I am pretty sure my dad can re-site almost the entire poem by memory. So for their gift, we got the poem printed out and framed for their house.
