Last Tuesday night Blaine and I were going to Back to School Night for Eli, so we dropped the boys off with some good friends to play while we went up to the school.
When we went to pick them up, Eli was sitting on the couch but I figured he was just tired since he had been up since before 5am. When we got there Scott and Carrie told us he had hurt himself but that they figured he was OK.....and we thought so too. The boys had been going "parkour" and he flew over the back of the couch.
He was guarding his arm that night and wouldn't use it, but sometimes kids can be dramatic. We decided we would reevaluate in them morning. So the next morning he said he hurt worse. I wasn't convinced that it was that bad. So I made him go to school and gave his teacher a heads up when I dropped him off that I was not sure if he was playing it up or really injured and let her know that I would probably pick him up if I could get him an appointment.
The doctor was able to fit us in so Cash and I went to get Eli from school. We were all joking in the room being silly. I told Eli there was a good chance it was just bruised and the pain would just go away with time so be prepared for the doctor to say that. Then he asked if he had to go back to school---it was only 10:30am so I told him that if he got a cast he did not have to go back---all the while thinking that there was no way he was leaving with a cast!
Then the doctor came in with the x-ray. Explained what he saw and asked Eli if he had chosen his cast color!?!?!? Boy, was I wrong. Broken bone above the elbow.
So we left with a light blue cast and some lollipops. After texting Blaine the above pictures (he was at work) to let him know how the appointment went, we went to the store to get the first signature from Pop!
We are about two weeks in right now and Eli is beyond ready for it to come off. But all in all, he is being such a trooper!
