Random happenings

Owen had his two month check-up last week, and Eli tagged along to get his flu shot.  When Rachel called me as I was walking in to the doctors office and heard the panic in my voice when I told her I was alone, with both boys, and they were both getting shots, and the morning wasn't the smoothest thus far, she came running over to give me some reinforcement.  Thank goodness she did.  It was one of those days.  Not to mention that we had to wait about 45 minutes for their shots in a 7x7 room with nothing to play with besides tongue depressors and the door knob that made a funny sound when it was jiggled.
Eli was a champ.  He watched as the nurse cleaned his leg, and stuck him with the needle despite me acting like a fool with Larry dancing in front of him trying to get his mind off of the needle that was about to be planted into his thigh.  But he watched, jumped just a little when it when in, and that was it.  No tears! He grabbed his stickers with much delight and was off to play.  I don't take shots that well, and I'm 30!  It doesn't help that the boys go to the same pediatrican office that I went to growing up and I still have anxiety just walking in there ( I wasn't the best patient). It has the same smell, same pictures on the wall and get this, even some of the same toys in the waiting room!  I remember so well because I went there until I was in college!  Yep, even took my college roommate, Natalie there for an appointment when she wasn't feeling well.  I should have gotten the hint that it was time to move on to a big girl doctor when the receptionist asked me who my child was.

Owen got the whole work-up at this appointment. His shots weren't quite as smooth, but after about 20 seconds, he was calm and zonked out for the remainder of the day.
 Here are his stats:
14 pounds!!!!! (90%)
23 inches long (50-75%)
This boy is a little chunker!  He is wearing the clothes Eli wore when he was around 5 months old!    It certainly makes for some good cuddling and squishy cheeks to kiss.
He is one happy little babe.

We got a visit from one of my aunts last weekend, Aunt Marilyn, who lives in Dallas.  It was so fun to see her and she got to spend some time with Owen, who buried himself in her arms and slept for three hours!

We also welcomed a new cousin into the family!  Miles Stanley Lindauer was born on October 15th.  Miles is the 10th great-grandchild on my paternal grandparents side.  It seems that this family only produces boys....we are nine for ten!  Only one girl out of the 10 great-grandchildren so far, what are the chances?
I just couldn't help posting these pictures! I love to see my dad with Eli. Lately he has been taking him out to the garage at my parents house and letting him look around.  There is a lot of "boy stuff" in there- lawnmower, fishing poles and lures, tools....my dad just can not resist these boys!  He always told me that if Pa were alive (my grandfather) he would give us anything we wanted....well, my dad is following in those footsteps for sure.

Rooooaaaaar! Caw! Vroom!

I have been trying to take advantage of this beautiful weather we have been having.  Although getting out of the house with both boys by myself seems to be somewhat of a challenge on some days.  Eli is getting his last set of molars which makes for some interesting nights, and if you mix in getting up with Owen on top of that, some mornings just getting dressed or  brushing my teeth seems impossible.  I have found that I can shower in about 90 seconds if I really have to, can eat standing up while holding a baby, can go days without having the time to reply to any e-mails, can make it through the day on much less sleep than I thought possible, and find myself thinking to myself 'While Owen is sleeping, do I want to shower, eat lunch or take a nap?' because usually there is only time do one of those things!

But, most days we make it happen and spend the majority of the day outside or manage to do something fun for Eli.
This week we went to the zoo, the park in the neighborhood, and a trip to Zilker to ride the train!

The zoo was quite the adventure.  I went alone with just the two boys, which in hindsight, wasn't the best way to go to the zoo.  We still had a great time, but Owen fussed every time we stopped at a different cage, and Eli being the extremely cautious child that he is, was very hesitant of all the animals and it took some time before he warmed up to them.  He spent the majority of the first half of the trip in the stroller watching from afar....

He managed to find some favorite animals though....

"Llama, llama, llama" these were the favorite animal of the trip....

But the lions were a close second....

He also found this animal, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what he is, but Eli seemed to really enjoy his company...
But we also found some other things at the zoo, that really made the trip a success!
Yes, you are seeing the pictures right, rocks and a 'big truck!'

All in all, we had a great time, and cant wait to go back!  But with an extra set of hands next time!

We really lucked out with the park in our neighborhood.  Its about a 10 minutes walk from our house, it has a great playground, tennis courts, a 1.25 mile trail around the park, sand volleyball, a lap pool and childrens pool, basketball courts, well, you get the point.  We walk there a lot and often stop off there at the end of a run in hopes of Eli running out his energy to take a loooong nap for me when we get home.

But of course, the best part is....wait for it......
the firetruck of course!

Some mornings, like today, everything seems to fall into place and I'm able to go for a run, shower, write a post and eat breakfast all while Owen is napping and Eli is at school!  But, I hear him starting to stir and that means, my morning of freedom is coming to and end!  Gotta go! :)

Zeta Babies

How could I not start off this post by welcoming yet another Zeta baby into this world!  Welcome Baby Boy Brooks!!!! I am so excited for my dear friend Natalie and her husband Jeff.  They welcomed their first baby into this crazy world on September 11, and I can not wait to meet this cute little bundle!!!

A few weekends ago, a few friends from college were in town for a wedding.  These are some of the girls who I went through Rush with, went to countless frat parties, foam parties, Formals, lived in the Zeta house together, we went to each others weddings and now, we are introducing our kids to each other--crazy!!!

Eli had met all of them at some point except for Anna.  If you look closely enough, you will see that she is playing with the safety/baby proofing  lock for the cabinets that she oh so easily pulled off.  Smart girl!
It was so great to finally meet her! She is just precious!
Anna's mom is expecting her second girl in just two months, and was getting in some practice with Owen.  Anna didn't seem to mind too much, she just kept saying "baby" and offering him a bite of her plastic corn.
We also got to see Bo and Will this weekend!
Here is Bo strutting his stuff....

...and Will was napping during the first half of our visit and I didn't get any good shots, sorry Will!  I will do better next time!
It was great to see the girls....I just wish we had more time together!

It was Owen's first time meeting everyone, so of course we had to get in a group shot with all the kiddos.  It was so great to see everyone, and to watch our children play together.  This was definitely the first of many visits together!
