Happy Fathers Day!

When I think about my dad, I think of the perfect man. Everyday I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have him as my dad. When I thought about who I wanted to marry, I had such high standards because he certainly had to match up to the kind of man my dad is.
Seeing Blaine with Eli has been nothing short of amazing. From the day Eli was born, he embraced fatherhood and impresses me everyday.
I want Eli to grow up looking up to his dad, and wanting to grow up to become a man just like he is; and judging by the way Eli already looks at Blaine, he will do just that. I think Eli is so lucky to have Blaine as his dad.
Happy Fathers Day!

Thank goodness for naps!

We had a pretty low-key weekend, and it was great. It started off with me cooking dinner, yes, I cooked dinner--a rarity in this household! Usually Blaine is the main chef in the house, but I figure with his bum leg, and a baby who will soon be eating "real" food, I should really try and perfect my cooking skills and put my skills to work. I find myself picking up Martha Stewart, Better Homes and Garden and watching the Food Network as much as possible in hopes of becoming domestic through osmosis.

My goal is one home cooked dinner a week, at least to start off with, I dont want to be too ambitious! So check back with me in about a month and see if I am holding true to my word!
Thanks Lauren for the enchilada recipe, Blaine loved it and even finished off the leftovers on Saturday. Im on the prowl for easy, fast recipes...tonights meal--a baked ravioli dish--yum!
Eli has, for the most part, become a master napper (night time is a whole other story!), once he finally gives in and falls asleep. The hard part is getting him to give in--he is so aware of everything going on and would much rather hang out with us that he fights it with all is might. This is our newest struggle. I cant help but laugh most of the time- I dont know how he makes some of the sounds that come out of his mouth, he grunts, and sqeals, cries, laughs, and sticks out his tounge arches his back....all it takes is for him to realize that all he has to do is close his eyes, and he is out like a light! Thank goodness for naps! I feel like I have so much time now during the day it took me a few days to figure out what to do with myself!
On Saturday after a stellar 3 hour nap we went for lunch and a swim at Eli's Aunt Dinky's house with Susu, Eli's Great Godmother, and my mom.

Dinky and Eli

Eli didnt so much like his swim, he just had a grumpy day! I fear that teething began yesterday judging by the bouts of crying to being happy and smiley back to crying, coupled with the slobber that seems to constantly be running down his chin and chewing on his fingers. But no teeth yet...still a little early!
So after his first nap on Sunday we went to visit Maw, Eli's great grandmother. My mom and dad, my aunt Kathy and Unlce Danny all happened to be visiting at the same time, so we had some nice time together before going to my parents house for dinner for a 4 star meal cooked by my dad.

When we got home Eli helped me sort through the mail, his new favorite past time...check out his stellar sitting up skills!
And in true male fashion, took control of the remote before heading off to bed...

When it rains in pours....

And its been hailing at our house!

Since we figured Blaine would be spending more time than usual at home the next few weeks, I went out on Wednesday to stock up on all kinds of snacks and food to have at home. It was the perfect time of day to go to the grocery store. As I was driving there I thought to myself "this is perfect, I'm not at all hungry, so I wont impulse buy things I don't need just because I'm hungry." By the time I made it to the pickle isle and I felt myself salivating at the thought of some bread and butter pickles, I knew my feeling of being full had since vanished. I left the grocery store with more food than I had bought in a long time and spent an ridiculous amount of money. Not to mention that by the time I had gotten home, a box of cookies and a bag of peanut butter filled pretzels had already been broken into to. I thought we were set for a while in the food department.
We were slowly starting to settle into life with a broken leg. I didn't realize just how much I depended on Blaine and his two legs! Blaine breaking his leg was when the storm rolled in...

It started to thunder when Eli developed a rash all over his head and who projectile vomits every time I give him his medicine (which, by the way, isn't working) and leaks out of all his diapers--another side effect of his medicine--diareah--lovely. He is constantly rubbing his head back and forth while he is sleeping, I'm sure because its itchy and is having trouble sleeping soundly (which is a whole other struggle). We also have to put a topical antibiotic on his head making him him look like Danny Zuko from Grease with his hair all greased back from the ointment! I find myself trying to hide his head from any on-lookers because I must say, he looks pretty ridiculous with all that gunk in his hair.

What happened next? Oh right, I remember...I came home from running an errand yesterday and walked into an 80 degree house. Yes, our AC took a dive. We call our handy AC repair man Robert who has helped us out before and he puts us on his schedule for the evening. It wouldn't be such a huge problem if A. it wasn't 93 degrees outside, and B. if we didn't have a baby who needed to go to sleep!
We thought it best to get out of the house and grab some dinner, so we went out to Waterloo for some burgers. Eli thought it would be the best time and place to lose his cool and scream/cry through dinner. I guzzled down my margarita and our meals we got out of there!

So being the emotional eater that I am, we get home and I go straight to the freezer to pull out some ice cream for desert. Only to discover that my ice cream is now just chocolate milk. Frantically, I call Blaine to the kitchen and as he hops over, I realize EVERYTHING in the freezer is melted, the ice is dripping water all over the floor, and the refrigerator is slowing becoming warmer and warmer.....ALL the food I had just bought is now about to be spoiled. By this time its already passed 8pm (way passed Eli's bedtime) and we are frantically emptying out the ice machine and leaky food while Eli is slowly starting to crash.
So we packed our bags and headed to my parents house to sleep in thier cool house! Today we begin our quest for a new fridge.

To sum it up, we have a broken leg, a rashy head, projectile vomit, and leaky diapers, a cranky baby, broken AC, broken refrigerator and whole bunch of spoiled groceries--all in a days work!

Im hoping the storm has passed, the clouds are moving through and the sun is about to come back out (at least i hope)!

What a day!

Isn't there a saying that goes something like "you learn something new everyday" ?
Well today, I learned about IOJ. I didn't even know what that stood for before yesterday. It stands for "Injury on the Job." Here is why...

Yes, Blaine has broken his leg, his fibula, in two places. He is non-weight bearing on his leg for at least SIX weeks, and will be on crutches! It should be interesting to see how we (meaning, I) will manage for the next six weeks....without an extra set of hands! Poor Blaine, feels a bit defeated, and is in some pain, but we will find a way to get through this! I feel a little bit like I have two babies (not that I am calling Blaine a baby, but the guy is pretty helpless!).

Here is what happened....

He went to work like any other day, and I always try to think of fun things that Eli and I can do together when its just the two of us hanging out all day. So I has this grand idea to take Eli for his first "swim." I pulled out the baby pool and blew it up. I set Eli up in the Bumbo on the back porch so he could watch me and feel like he was involved in our project. I realized I couldnt find the hose...I know we have multiple hoses, and I couldnt find any of them. Frustrated, I call Blaine at work and when I called, the Fireman who answered said in an odd way "Em, he just left with the Chief." He sounded a little fishy, but I didn't think much of it, I just wanted to find the hose! So, I call Blaine on his cell. I'm so excited about getting Eli in the pool that as soon as he answered I started asking about the hose! He finally cut me off and told me he as at the ER! Long story short, he was running at work just doing some PT drills and he got caught up with another guy and fell. It hasn't even been 24 hours since he has been home, and is already sick of the crutches, and using a rolly chair for his mode of transportation around the house!

Needless to say, Eli and I still enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the backyard while we waited for Blaine to finish up at work and come home. His chief was with him and took him back to the station to have dinner with the guys before coming home since he will not be able to be on duty until he is completely healed.

At first, he wasn't so sure that he like this pool thing...
Hmmmm...he starts to think about it....maybe its not so bad...Give me my turtle and maybe Ill like this pool thing a little better...

And in the end, the little dude was just chillin!!!!
