Eli decided long ago that he wanted to be Spiderman. We do not watch Spiderman, have any Spiderman toys or know where he learned about Spiderman, but he loves him. I tried countless times to convince him that he should be something else, anything else. I sat him down and pointed to really cool costumes in a catalogue and on the computer trying really hard to convince him that there were other neat costumes out there, but he would not budge. So Spiderman it is for Eli.
I did manage to convince Owen that being a Fireman was a good idea. We already had the costume and he did not seem stuck on anything else and happily agreed with me that it was a good idea. That is the beauty of him being two.
We were lucky enough to be invited to a few Halloween parties leading up to Halloween to ease the boys' excitement until the actual day was here. The first stop was at my friend Sara's house who had a cookie decorating and crafts party. Of course they only wanted to decorate a cookie and then head out to play in the bouncy house, so we left empty handed of any Halloween crafts. And by decorating cookies I mean, putting a glop of icing followed by a million sprinkles and a couple of candy corn and eating just the icing and sprinkles off (ugh!).
Getting back to the party....naturally they wanted to ride their bikes out to the car, the 5 feet in takes to get to the car, in their costumes.
Eli still has a little anxiety about going to school and would rather stay home with us so I thought it would be really good for him to see some school friends at a party. They had a really good time and ate way too much sugar (again with the cookie/cupcake decorating/icing glops/mountain of sprinkles!).
School has been keeping us pretty busy and I find myself making lists and lists of things that need to get down while they are in school. It isn't easy to get stuff done with three boys and try not to have to! On Fridays I get to spend special time with Owen while Eli is in school so we have a special breakfast date on Fridays.
I am really loving their new school! It is fairly small, and personal and I feel very involved and informed of everything going on. The director sends out an e-mail each week with things going on and around the school, and keeps everyone in the know. They have great teachers, and seem to be learning so much! The first week they were sent home with the Scholastic catalogue. Do you remember those???? I remember in elementary school anxiously waiting to see if my mom had ordered me anything so that I could get it at the end of the day. It was so nostalgic for me to see it, it looks the exact same as it did 25 years ago (ugh, I'm old!) that I had to order them something! I was more excited than them when it arrived! Although Eli was pretty excited about his book on Planets, he is really interested in the different planets, space, comets and the moon these days.
They had their fall picture day a few weeks back. Owen looks like a deer in headlights!
Whats up with the cheesy tire swing?!?!?
On Halloween, they had a Costume Casper at their school where all the kids wore their costumes to school and the parents were invited to come up and watch a little performance of all the kids so Blaine, Cash and I headed up to school!
When it was Owen's turn, he walked up there and just starred out into the audience.
When it was his turn to say his name and costume, he kept the same stare. Didn't say a word, just starred out throughout the whole song until it was time to come off stage.
It was really cute and fun to see them in action at school!
In other news, we had the first of many, many Bar Mitzvahs to come this last weekend. My adorable cousin Aaron became a Bar Mitzvah. I remember all too well my Bat Mitzvah! Rachel and I had ours together because we were so close in age. It was hours and hours of studying, lots of complaining I'm sure, and tons of planning. I don't think I actually knew just how much planning it takes to pull off a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Seeing how stressed my cousin Penny was planning for Aaron's made me realize its like planning a mini wedding-Friday night dinner, big party Saturday night, with a DJ, meal, entertainment, and brunch on Sunday, this is not to mention the services, studying, meeting with mentors, writing speeches, learning Torah portions, and all the prayers.
Logistically it was hard for us to attend everything this weekend, but we did pretty good all in all which made for some late nights for the boys. I only have pictures from the party on Saturday night and a few from the brunch Sunday morning.
Our Mission Impossible is to get a good family picture with everyone looking at the camera and smiling. Never going to happen! But we try!
I'm not sure why we thought it would be a good idea to kneel down to get a good picture?!?!
Owen! Over here!
Cash didn't like the strange lady who jumped in to "help" and who was clapping trying to get every ones attention!
Owen is zoning out and Eli thinks my Mom has the camera.
After trying to get a real picture, we thought we should just go for a goofy one instead!Sunday morning I was at my parents house helping them get ready for the brunch that started at 9:30 and Blaine brought the boys over after it started. A few cousins couldn't make it, but we got a shot at the ones that were there. Aaron, the one on the right holding Cash was the Bar Mitzvah boy.
Blaine got the boys dressed that morning, hence the tie shirts!
Notice anything??? ALL boys! We were still missing 3 more boys and the lone girl.
A few more pics of the boys from the brunch....
(My cousin Adam being a very bad influence on Owen!)
Blaine had to head to work after the brunch, so we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out at my parents house with my parents, Aunt and sister. I honestly think my mom has something new for the boys to play with every single time we are there. This weekend, superhero capes!
Next up, Halloween Party!!!!
