Splish Splash!

I have lagged a bit in posting lately and I have a feeling it wont get any better. I'm tired. I'm busy. And these boys (all three of them) are running me ragged, but in a good way!
I woke up this morning to the sound of a a dog barking.  I wish I could blame it on a neighbor and could have put a pillow over my head and just gone back to sleep, but unfortunately it was coming from the room next door to mine.  Eli woke up this morning at 5am barking like a dog.  I can blame that on his dad for teaching him that trick. He hasn't woken up that early in months, thank goodness, but with Baby #2 rearranging my ribs at 5am as well, it was just as well that we get up.  We packed for our upcoming trip, ran the trail, visited Pop and Rachel at Kruger's and played with Mariposa (the store cat), and Eli ran some errands with his dad so I could relax...all before his 3 hour nap at 11.

So, in an effort to write a quick post, Ill finish it out with pictures from our fun afternoon at the new Splash Pad at Pease Park with some friends.  We met Sarah and Henry, Xio and Sophia, and Melanie and Will.  Melanie and I were Zeta's together at UT and I hope that they will continue to meet up with us so our boys can grow up together and be buds!

Sophia, Eli and Will checking it all out...Eli was pretty unsure about the whole thing...

Catching Up

A lot of big changes are happening/have happened around here, and I want to make sure I document them, mostly for me so that I don't forget them!  We have officially moved to one nap!  It may not seem like a big deal, but it seems like we have been in this transition for months and months now!  It made it so hard to plan play dates, and outings with other people because there were days where Eli would take two naps, each at least one and a half hours,  and other days where he took only one nap smack in the middle of the day.
I'm pretty sure that Blaine and I were holding onto two naps for as long as possible mostly for us! We cherished that morning nap!  But you know, the kid is almost 17 months old now, and should be able to function on one nap, so we made the switch.  I gotta say, the day does seem much longer, but we have so much more time for fun outings--already we have made trips to the pool, to visit great-grandmothers, trips to the fire station, and I have a whole list of fun outings to check off our list before the baby comes.

Eli still seems pretty clueless about a baby moving into his territory, although, he has given my growing belly some interesting looks!  My belly-button that seems to continue to protrude from my belly continues to be a fun thing to poke!

Speaking of baby #2, we still don't have a name for him, or many strong contenders. One thing for sure is that he is one active baby! I don't remember feeling Eli in my belly half as much!  As I am typing I can see my belly dancing around as he finds a comfortable place, which apparently takes quite a lot of maneuvering! He has 11 weeks to go, I can not believe how quickly time has gone by.

I plan on buying the last of the furniture that needs to be bought to finish the baby's and Eli's room....which means that Eli will soon be moving into his big boy room!  I'm slowly moving his things into his new room, and hope to be done by the end of June.  I want to make sure that Eli doesn't feel like he is being "kicked-out" of his room for the baby, so we hope to make the big move a couple of months before baby comes.

Eli has sprouted molars, four of them.  Surprisingly, they came in with barely any trouble at all!  You would think that a big block of tooth pushing through your gums would cause a huge stink, but Eli continues to surprise me everyday!
In the last week, he has started trying to pronounce new words and has tripled his vocabulary.  His favorite words as of late are "wa-er" (water), "wow!", a high pitched noise that resembles a bark that means dog, "Dada"--but only while knocking on the bathroom door because that is where Dada usually is in the mornings, "that", "bye-bye", "buuuuu" (bus) and of course, "ball" still tops the list.

Fittingly, Firetrucks have become one of Eli's favorite things (along with buses).  On Sunday we went to the station to visit Blaine and play with some of the other firefighters kids who were also visiting thier Dad.  And for the first time, Eli actually realized where he was and got so excited and pointed to the truck room door until we took him out there.  He couldnt get over how big the wheels were!  He even stood in the drivers seat and played with the steering wheel.  I wasnt expecting that kind of reaction out of him, so we totally missed a great photo-op, but Im sure there will be many more opportunities for that!

The thing about being young and new to the world is that kids are so present and interested in everything.  I am reminded of that everyday when we are in the car and I am worried about being late to get somewhere, or frustrated by an oblivious driver talking on thier cell phone, and Eli is oblivious to worries and stresses of the world and so excited by seeing a school bus drive by, or by following the moon in the sky all the way home from getting coffee in the morning, or excited by a dog or by the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" playing on his CD as he does the hand motions.  Kids are so sweet and innocent and I wish we could all keep a little but of that innocence instead of becoming jaded as we get older.

Well, I gotta take advantage of the time I have to relax these last weeks before The Baby Who is Yet to be Named arrives, so while Eli is napping with Larry, I think I will too!  Off to my bed.....
