School has finally arrived.
Hallelujah!
As much as I enjoyed this last summer, I am more than pleased that it is over. I spent the first few months of the summer, huge, nauseous, sleep deprived, hormonal, hot, and anxiously awaiting our little bundle to show his face. I spent the last month of summer learning how to juggle three little boys, one of whom is extremely gassy, but beyond cute, sleep deprived, rarely showered, or dressed in clothes other than my pj's, doing my best to remain sane, and counting down the days until school started. Sounds like a fun summer, right?
Tuesday we went to the Open House at their new school, met their teachers, classmates and played in each of their rooms for a bit before everyone headed out to the playground for a little juice box social. Eli knew he would be going to a new school and in the days prior to the Open House expressed some anxiety about wanting to stay home with me instead of going to school. When I would talk to Owen about school and I would ask if he was excited he would say "Yes, I am excited to go to school" because these days he never answers with yes or no, always a complete sentence repeating what you just asked him, even when a simple yes or no would do! So, I was not really sure if he really meant it, or just repeating.
The night before, we did what every 3 1/2 year old boy does to get ready for school: shave.
Checking out his clean-shaven whiskers
This morning, I really felt like I had my act together and was calm and collected, but after Blaine pointed out that I was acting "on-edge" I realized just how anxious I was about sending them to school, especially Owen since it was first school day ever.
It felt like Blaine was driving to the school at the pace of a snail. When we finally arrived, we dropped off Eli first to his class with Mrs. Rebecca. He gave me a hug, and walked off. That was it. Wow.
Then we walked right across the hall to Owen's classroom (love that they are so close to each other!)with Mrs. Tish (and yes, I am worried he will call her Mrs. Tush at some point). We found his cubby, put away his stuff, he gave me a hug, and walked off. That was it. Shocked!
It is such a bittersweet moment. I love how happy and independent they are and so proud that they went in with such ease, but just goes to show you how quickly they are growing up. The first day is always the hardest, I could not wait to hear how the day went.
When it was time to pick them up, I jumped in the drivers seat before Blaine could because I was ready to speed the whole way there. I'm pretty sure as we were walking in, Blaine asked me to slow down because I was a good 10 steps ahead of him.
We first picked up Eli. As soon as he saw me, he ran right up to me and told me he had a good day, and had a huge smile on his face and told me how he saw Owey on the playground and they got to talk:), he showed me his artwork and his teacher said he was pretty chatty-surprising.
Then we got Owen, he was on the floor playing and did a double take when he saw me and ran up to us, excited as can be. His teacher told me how he saw Eli and how excited they were to see each other, how he ate a great lunch and took his time, was really happy all day, and how he was very quiet and stood back and observed the whole day-surprising again!
The sweetest part of picking them up was both of their teachers telling us how they saw each other on the playground and how excited they were to see each other, how they got to talk to each other and how happy it made each of them.
First day of school = success! All my anxieties are out the window! We went for frozen yogurt to celebrate a great first day of school before heading home for naps, they were POOPED!
So what did I do with my time?!?!?
I hung out with this guy.
Oh, and went and got a big iced coffee and went to the mall and bought myself a new dress! I think I am going to like this!
